Hello friends! This was kind of a low-key week for shooting as I had several models cancel on me during the week HOWEVER it was also kind of an epic week with three killer shoots all happening over the course of last weekend.
Normally I work on the weekends so I miss out on a lot of events but due to some unforeseen circumstances I couldn't work. This led to one of my favorite weekends of all-time and it was filled with shenanigans. I'm not much for holidays but 4/20 is sacred to me as a stoner so I spent the day with my bf Grey Garbo. Grey and I met up in the afternoon and had to go back to each other's houses several times when we both realized we had forgotten our marijuana at home (a big no-no for 420 though to be honest I'm not sure we needed it as we were gifted so much). We eventually made our way to downtown to Jade Apothecary aka Arqade 2.0 to kick it with Ceven Grey and the crew. We also shot a bunch of stuff including some kick ass new hats courtesy of my friends over at Graffiti The City. It was a 420 miracle when our friend Miao Savage showed up and made a beautiful cameo in the set. Finally we landed ourselves at Superchief Gallery for Bloody Gums Collective's takeover show "LA Is Trying to Kill Me 2" featuring our friend Balloonski.
As Saturday rolled on I hit up my friend Stephanie Monty to see if she wanted to go event hopping for the night. I landed at her place where she was wearing a cute but sort of basic outfit. I was dressed up, her roommate was dressed up, so she needed to dress up. We all went a little over the top which definitely set the night off right for some amazing photos. Our first stop of the night was The Gabba Gallery.
Everyone at Gabba was giving us kind of funny looks for our outfits so we didn't really wind up shooting that much but it was still fun and ran in to lots of great people. Our group also grew a bit when our friend Mike and his friend Julius (our new friend) met up with us.
From there the five of us headed down the street to LA Native Barbershop where KFB muse Brianna Christine was spinning fire for a Metal Meets Marijuana event. We missed the fire spinning but still got some rad photos there including a few with Brianna and various shots in the amazing black light room. Up until this point I knew Stephanie and I were having some fun shooting photos, but I didn't really know this was going to be a full blown set UNTIL we arrived at our final location: SUPERCHIEF!
Back to Superchief Gallery where the Bloody Gums Collective was taking over all weekend. I knew Balloonski would be there so I asked Stephanie earlier in the night if he was if she would be down for a balloon outfit. Her answer of course was "Fuck yeah". When we arrived at the gallery I began to pack a bowl when Balloonski stepped out of the gallery for a smoke. We all shouted his name. Upon our beck and call our friend moseyed on over. I suggested the balloon outfit and he was happy to oblige. As he was working on the outfit a beautiful and mysterious girl sauntered our way. I suggested to Stephanie that she be our new friend to which Stephanie shouted, "Hey new friend! Would you like to wear a balloon outfit?" Little did I know that this would lead to absolutely artistic chaos. The beautiful and mysterious woman is Nielah. Nielah is this kick ass chick from NorCal who was no stranger to modeling and LOVED what we were doing and was happy to join in. During the ballooning Stephanie and I requested balloon strap on dicks as we had been joking for weeks that Stephanie's outfits needed a strap on. Again, Balloonski was happy to oblige. Once both outfits were done we began shooting out in the street and built quite the crowd of spectators. I was reminded why I normally like to shoot in remote and desolate locations as the on-lookers tried to engage in our shoot, though I was able to keep them at bay with some assisting from the girls. We took some amazing photos and you should really just check out the fruits of our labor. Big thanks to Superchief and Bloody Gums Collective for supporting our impromptu shoot.
At the end of our Saturday night, our new friend Nielah and I exchanged contact info. I told her I'd be going to Jade Apothecary the next day (my new home away from home to get some work done) and she should join. She texted me the next day asking if I'd be there so we met up. Before she headed over I suggested we shoot some more photos. Nielah brought some great outfits and so we wandered around Jade's home Saint Vincent Court (a cute little one way/dead end street in downtown with facades from movie sets). We were taking some rad photos but lost a little steam after a guy wouldn't let us on to the rooftop of his building. We walked back in to the gallery where we would find Balloonski just hanging out. I asked Balloonski if he'd be interested in round 2 of ballooning. Once again this brought the shoot up to the next level and you really just have to check it out. Overall it was a fantastic weekend so enjoy the fruits of our labor.
