Sunday! Sunday! Sunday! The return of Lex Lu! I first met Lex when German street artist Raphael Grischa told me he loved my photos and was wondering if I'd be interested in working on a music video with him while he was in town. I had no idea who the musician was up until maybe the day of the day. I showed up and there was one of the strongest female warriors I think I had ever met. Lex projects confidence, raw emotion, and happens to be one of the sweetest people I know. We headed out to shoot her video on dry lake bed in the desert. I kept telling her I wanted to sneak away and shoot some photos with her, but sadly it did not happen that day. Of course we would eventually go on to shoot several sets and Angelina Christina would paint her face on the side of a giant wall in South Central based on one of my photos so it all worked out in the end. In fact Lex actually requested to use one of my photos of Angelina's wall as her album cover for her killer new album Lexangeles. I've included all in the info on the album below to please check it out!
Today's set was basically themed "You can't take Jay anywhere". Lex asked me if I'd like to shoot with her in a studio that included lights, a backdrop, etc. I said, "Sure!" but when I showed up I treated the entire building as my playground. Everyone there was so nice and said I could use the entire building so I basically ran Lex around to each room and down the street to shoot. Lex pulled out this green sweater with a giant Dead Kennedys patch sewn on the front and I was just in heaven while we listed to Jello Biafra shout out "KILL! KILL! KILL! KILL! KILL THE POOR!". The punk rock vibe was perfect for me because I think if you bring any other photographer in to a studio with lighting they would say "Oh cool! How professional", give you a little click click click and then be done but I'm just running around like a nut. I hope you love this set as much as I do!
