I photograph three girls named Cindy. This isn't necessarily the most of one name I photograph (Angelina Prendergast, Angelina Christina, and Angelina Savanna Morales aka Lina Savanna) but it seems as though each time I do a post about one of the Cindys that inevitably I soon after post about another Cindy. Yesterday I posted up about Cindy Paola and today I'm shifting over to Cindy Parra (nothing new on the Cindy Clark aka Girlwolf front).
I've known Cindy Parra the longest. Cindy and I went to Art Center together where we were friendly in all our interactions, but it was when we ran in to each other at a Super Chief show in Downtown LA where Cindy was making her famous cotton candy that we became friends. I photographed Cindy twice. The first time I photographed Cindy I was working with Angelina Christina and Kevin Ledo in Culver City documenting one of their murals. I didn't realize how far she came from and I think I wore her out a bit. After our first shoot we started getting together semi-regularly for coffee, pie, and wonderful conversations. When Cindy and I get together we love to talk about many things but definitely spend a lot of time talking our art practices and careers. Our second shoot was actually born out of one of our late night coffee get togethers. I can't stress enough how important Cindy is to me for her support as a friend and artist. LA can feel like a big lonely place sometimes with how much is going on but Cindy is a really kickass friend and muse.
Besides being a great model, Cindy is a killer artist known primarily for her fun, fabulous, thought-provoking, and often sexual drawings and paintings of horses and unicorns (sometimes a few naked people as well). She recently had a rad solo show at a beautiful space in Chinatown known as Leiminspace called "Please Cum". I went to the opening but was so sick I hardly got to appreciate it, but I absolutely fell in love with both the work and the space. I offered to shoot Cindy in the space so we hit it up a sunny afternoon and shot in to the evening. The shoot made for some lovely photos that I'm happy to share with you today.
