If there is a spell for summoning light spirits I must have stumbled upon it when I met one of my greatest muses to date, Ms. Chelsea Hanes. I only met Chelsea a little over a month ago and we've shot together three times. It's rare I shoot with someone so much so quickly so when it does happen it generally means that I'm incredibly inspired by the work I am making with that person.
Chelsea and I wound up crossing paths through Kung Fu Babe Mel Montesi. Chelsea and her friend Lauryn have a business venture where Chelsea makes custom installable and temporary hair wraps and Lauryn makes crocheted tops under the name Spirit Sugar. Both of their work is super sick. Mel did a shoot with Spirit Sugar and wound up wearing one of their crocheted tops for an upcoming set of ours. After that Spirit Sugar started reposting a few of our photos on IG. I took a look at their account and saw this purple-haired Goddess. I messaged them about wanting to do some business together but ultimately wanted to take photos of this radiant woman. The purple-haired Goddess introduced herself as Chelsea and we made plans to meet up for coffee to talk all sorts of things.
Chelsea and I met up a small coffee shop in Brentwood and immediately clicked. Our energies touched on this astral level. We decided to leave the coffee shop so we could blaze on some herb with our beverages but every location we tried to head to was a bust, though it didn't matter because we were having beautiful conversation. Ultimately we found ourselves on the edge of the beach on the north side of Marina Del Rey. I kept looking at her pulsing energy and beauty and did not want to waste any more time before photographing her. I just threw all those feelings out there as a big smile grew across her face.
We headed back to where she was staying in Brentwood to grab some of her things and headed to one of my favorite magical locations, Solstice Canyon. Chelsea was amazing to shoot with and we vibed on so many levels. The shoot took places just a few days after all the major rains had been hitting Los Angeles so Solstice Canyon, which runs alongside a river, was alive with water. We found some mud and Chelsea just got in it and created some real magic. We then found our way to the old ruins of the mansion. I've photographed people in the mansion many times but what you may not realize from my previous photos is that there is a waterfall right by the ruins. Normally the waterfall is a bit sad because of LA's 10 year draught, but as we made our way back there it was raging!
On our way back through Malibu we also got a chance to take a few quick photos alongside the beach as the sun was setting. Chelsea was so wonderful to shoot with and I look forward to showing you more sets with her in the future. Enjoy!
