I've been free of a 9-5 for almost a year now and I thought that eventually weekends would love all meaning but dammit Friday still feels like Friday. The reality is more than I don't always know its Friday, especially when I'm in the middle of a mural and I haven't been home for weeks. Today is not that case. Today I am heading to day one of weekend two of The Cannabis Cup and I'm pretty stoked because I'll be photographing two of my favorite models: Mel Montesi and Angelina Savanna Morales. They have never met but I think they are going to like each other a lot and we will have an amazing shoot. Meanwhile work continues with Angelina Christina on her new mural in South Central. We worked all week on it but work will be postponed until Angelina gets back from Pow! Wow! Hawaii. I'm super stoked for her and all the work she's been doing. The thing I love about working with all of these women is the sense of freedom they all have. Janis Joplin sang "freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose".
Today's set is also about freedom. I recently discussed doing an all nude shoot in the city with a model friend of mine. She was somewhat concerned about how her identity could come in to play so we decided to create an alternate persona for her named "The Anonymous Girl" donning a fairly blank mask save for a mouth hole. For her I instantly saw the transformation and for me it informed my work in terms of how I viewed identity. The vast majority of this gallery is not safe for work so be forewarned, but all in good taste.
