Halloween is over (though not really for any of us spooky 24/7 lifestylers) and Fall is getting in to full swing here in Los Angeles. As an Angelino I love when it cools down but as a photographer it's a little tougher because night shoots become almost impossible unless the model is layered up, the days become shorter so less light for daytime shoots, but still I'll take it because things just seem a little calmer around this time. I suppose the coldish weather hasn't stopped me much as I've had a few dope shoots in the last few weeks and more coming soon. I've been out there shooting street art more recently but haven't really had any big projects coming my way so I thought it would be nice to visit one of the last major projects with Angelina Christina as we made our return to Mar Vista.
Followers of the site probably remember our previous jaunt earlier this year to Mar Vista to work on a pair of murals with Mar Vista local DJ Neff who owns and operates Mar Vista Art Dept. Well DJ invited Angelina back to Mar Vista to work on a small gathering of artists including DJ, Wyatt Mills, Mad Steez, and Apexer to create pieces leading up to a big neighborhood party being organized by Mar Vista Art Dept and sponsored by Hansen's Soda. We had just come off the heals of our two month long project in Santa Monica (which I will post soon but I wanted to skip ahead to this one for various reasons) so something about 10 days in Mar Vista working on this mural was amazing but also tiring.
The painting of the mural had its ups and down for sure. We were stoked to be in a really positive neighborhood, though one of our first nights working we encountered a drunk who may have been tweaking as well and simply would not leave us alone. We each other got sick for about 24 hours during the 10 days there. But other than that I can't really complain much. Because of the multiple mural action we were able to get two lifts which meant I got to do my first photo session from one lift with Angelina painting in the other. Several days in to the project was the Hansen's event and it was really cool with bicycle rickshaws taking people to and from the different murals, free food prepared by a professional chef with dishes inspired by the artists, a virtual reality spray can set up, and screen printing of designs by each of the artists. The event was one of the best street art related events I've been to. Overall this was a killer mural to work including the model showing up as well as various friends. With most of these things I could probably go on forever about all the little stories but for now I will let you enjoy Angelina Christina in Mar Vista.
