Anyone that follows me here or on social media knows that I love the desert. I only started going out to the desert in the last several years but ever since then it's become a craving. I don't just want to go to the desert, I have to go. There's a calling. I'm not sure if it's the quiet, the peacefulness, how eerie it can get, how far from society it is, the sand, or what but I love being in the desert. My most frequent desert companion through all this has been my good friend and collaborator Angelina Christina. Angelina's work in The Salton Sea has been well documented here, particularly The Tank and Kinetoscope in Slab City. Earlier this year Angelina received a threat on her social media that taggers were going to come out and tag up these wonderful gems. These threats happen frequently but thus far have been entirely empty. Generally people that want to tag your shit don't announce it first. However, this did not stop us from making an immediate trip out there to apply an anti-graffiti coating just in case. An anti-graffiti coating for those that don't know is a chemical rinse that allows any paint applied on top of the coating to be washed away, helping preserve what's underneath.
For this particular adventure Angelina would need some extra hands and enlisted the help of Jordyn Richards. Angelina suggested Jordyn and I do a little photo shoot while she applied the coating so we did just that and had a pretty fun time. I had some apparel and accessories ready to be shot as well so that worked out quite nicely. Jordyn is a really interesting subject. She's fairly young but has gone through some serious shit in her life that has led her down a few different paths. I don't want to get to much in to her story as it is her own but needless to say soon after the shoot we would lose touch with Jordyn. I wasn't sure what the status of this set would be as I often keep strong ties to everyone I shoot with but Jordyn has been doing some really positive things in her life recently and lately all I can think about is the desert so I thought now might be a good time to put this out. Enjoy!
